On the 6th of February, 2017 students of the History department of the Humanities Stream (class XI D) of SBGJ Guwahati visited the archeological site of Madan Kamdev to study the architectural style of ancient Assam along with their teacher Sangita Bhattacharya. The architecture of Madan Kamdev shows resemblance to the architecture of Khajuraho Temple.
Lying 5 kms South East of Baihata Chariali the site has derived its name from the living sanctuary situated on the top of a small range of hills. It is an enigma, a mythical place of exquisite antiquities. The ruins are believed to be the remains of more than 20 temples consigned to Lord Shiva. Very little is known about the origin of this super structure. The students learned about the assortment of sculpture which included both Devas and Devis, the six hundred Bhairavas, Nataraj, Surya etc. It was an enriching experience for the students to get a glimpse of rich heritage of the land.
We sincerely thank our Principal Mrs Vaishaly Sharma Ma’am for her encouragement and constant support. Its her vision of making teaching effective and inspirational that the students are experiencing an enriching learning experience.
